Distance only about 2 miles, as I was fitting our "good" harness to the XC cart ready for a show next weekend, and although the harness and cart have been used together before, the shafts are different this year, so I needed to do some trials.

We met a gang of motorbikers, but didn't have any trouble. I do wish they would indicate which way they are going at junctions though. I had to ask them, so I could avoid blocking their way! Ruby paddled her feet a bit (they were a noisy lot) but didn't try to swerve or run away.

I have a pair of lovely black eyes BTW, having reached out to brush Ruby's long forelock yesterday without first putting a hand on her headcollar. She often has hairs stuck to the "sleep" in the corners of her eyes, and on this occasion she pulled her face away, hit the tree, and rebounded smack across the bridge of my nose. Just shows you, even the sweetest, kindest horse can do you damage in a moment. And this is the mare who was hiding behind me this afternoon to avoid Naomi washing her legs and tummy (which are all Naomi can reach).
