Report: ALBC’s Instructional British Rare Breed Show
In the Breeds Barn Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY, Friday, June 20, 2003
This competition took place on the first day of the three-day rare breed event designed to complement “All the Queen’s Horses.” The classes displayed British horse and pony breeds which are rare or endangered either globally or in North America.
As far as possible, the show was
judged
against British Native breed standards with the
proper salutes, turnout and patterns. Our British
judges
placed the classes and openly gave live commentary
and information to the audience and exhibitors
as they did so. However, to
avoid any embarrassment, private comments to exhibitors
were made with the microphone turned off.
Ribbons were awarded to all participants as well as to prize winners.
The pony breeds in particular were very well represented, and it was very pleasing especially in the ridden classes to see the effort that the exhibitors had made to present themselves and their animals in British style. Tweed jackets, jodhpurs, velvet caps, shirts and ties were correct throughout.
